In many partially edentulous patients requiring prosthesis and osseointegrated implants, orthodontic treatment is recommended to reposition natural teeth. These adjustments may be necessary to correct tooth positions, improve masticatory function, create adequate space for prosthetic restoration, and achieve esthetic outcomes that look natural.

Anchorage from osseointegrated implants, non-integrated mini-implants, or temporary anchorage devices (TADs) can facilitate these orthodontic movements—particularly in cases with multiple missing teeth. These devices may also be used to support temporary crowns during treatment. Such complex cases require thorough diagnostics, careful planning, and seamless communication between orthodontists and prosthodontists.

This lecture outlines the variables involved in combined ortho-implant-prosthetic treatments, supported by clinical case examples to illustrate effective decision-making processes.

Upon completion of this session, attendees should be able to:

• Understand the role of orthodontic setups as a communication tool and to assess treatment feasibility and outcomes.
• Learn how TADs enable complex or otherwise impossible tooth movements.
• Gain insights into implant planning based on post-orthodontic tooth positions.

Dr Stefano Gracis received his DMD degree in 1986 from the University of Pennsylvania. After his American title was recognized in Italy at the University of Pavia, he went to the University of Washington in Seattle where, in 1990, he obtained a certificate in prosthodontics and a Master of Science in dentistry. 

Presently, he maintains a private practice limited to prosthodontics and restorative dentistry in Milan, Italy. He is a past president of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and of the Italian Academy of Prosthetic Dentistry. He has contributed several articles and chapters in the field of restorative dentistry and lectures regularly, both nationally and internationally. Dr Gracis also serves on multiple editorial boards including the International Journal of Prosthodontics and the European Journal of Esthetic Dentistry.

He is the president, CEO and medical director of the Boone Heart Institute, a Denver-based health care organization dedicated to the eradication of heart disease and stroke. From 2008 through 2013, Dr Boone served as a member of the NFL Cardiovascular Committee. Dr Boone works as the Preventive Cardiology Consultant for the Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League and the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball. 

He has authored and co-authored numerous professional articles and books pertaining to cardiovascular risk, preventive cardiology and stress medicine. Dr Boone’s unique clinical approach focuses on aggressive prevention of cardiovascular disease, including the evaluation of the cardiovascular consequences of mental stress, the early clinical use of the latest cardiac imaging techniques and the advanced detection and treatment of cardiovascular risk.
