Sleep Disordered Breathing, Phenotypes, Metrics, and Combined Treatment Modalities
Lecture up to 1.5 hours
Oral Medicine, Oral Diagnosis, Oral Pathology, AGD Subject Code 730
Sleep disordered breathing affects over 10% of children today and up to 30% of adults. Snoring, upper airway resistance syndrome, and mild to very severe apnea represents the continuum of sleep disordered breathing. As dentists we have been mandated by the American Dental Association to screen for this costly health epidemic. We will discuss the vocabulary and metrics of sleep testing, learn to recognize the differences between normal and abnormal craniofacial structures and be able to spot dental, skeletal and facial cues in patients that may signify airway and sleep issues.
This program, led by Dr Kamran Fattah, addresses these concerns by introducing an innovative approach that combines appliance therapy with advanced fractional laser therapy. This method targets snoring, airway challenges, tethered oral tissues, and non-surgical regenerative applications, providing patients with immediate and noticeable improvements.
By offering rapid and effective results, this integrated treatment approach not only enhances patient comfort and satisfaction but also encourages adherence to longer-term therapies, ultimately increasing case acceptance. Dr Fattah will explore and demonstrate the latest technological advancements that enable efficient and effective patient care, equipping you with new options to promote healthier lives for your patients. Join us to discover how modern techniques can transform patient outcomes and foster a commitment to comprehensive treatment plans.
Upon completion of this session, the attendees should be able to:
-
Identify the vocabulary and metrics of sleep testing.
Understand how treating patients with combined modalities such as oral appliance therapy, myofunctional therapy and expansive orthodontics and laser therapy can improve treatment outcomes and patient satisfaction, while increasing revenues and profitability.
Recognize the differences between normal and abnormal craniofacial structures and be able to spot dental and facial clues in patients that may signify airway and sleep issues.
