Enhancing Implant Sedation Best Practices with Nitrous Oxide
Lecture up to 1 hour
Anesthesia and Pain Management | AGD Subject Code 340
As implant dentistry continues to evolve, procedures are becoming longer and more complex, increasing the demands placed on sedation strategies. This course explores the strategic use of nitrous oxide as a complementary modality to deep and moderate sedation during implant procedures. Designed for clinicians involved in implant placement—particularly those with a background in moderate sedation—this program addresses how nitrous oxide can enhance patient comfort, procedural efficiency, and overall safety when used appropriately. Through case-based discussions, including analysis of common clinical challenges and unexpected outcomes, participants will examine where intentions and execution can diverge, why complications occur, and how they can be prevented. Special emphasis is placed on risk management, nitrous oxide stability and safety, clinician self-assessment, and aligning sedation techniques with clinical capabilities. This course equips clinicians with practical insights to adapt sedation protocols responsibly as implant cases grow in duration and complexity.
Upon completion of this workshop, attendees should be able to:
- Explain the role of nitrous oxide as a complementary agent to deep and moderate sedation in implant dentistry.
- Identify safety and stability principles associated with nitrous oxide administration in longer and more complex implant procedures.
