Peri-Implantitis: A Medical–Dental Integrated Approach
Lecture up to 0.75 hour
Implants | AGD Subject Code 690
Peri-implantitis is no longer a strictly localized implant complication—it is a multifactorial disease process influenced by systemic health, inflammatory burden, and patient-specific risk factors. This lecture reframes peri-implantitis through a medical–dental integration lens, emphasizing the importance of understanding each patient as an interconnected system rather than an isolated implant site.
You will explore how systemic conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, immune dysregulation, and lifestyle factors contribute to peri-implant disease susceptibility and progression. The program highlights collaborative diagnostic strategies, risk assessment models, and interdisciplinary communication pathways that support earlier detection, more predictable treatment planning, and improved long-term outcomes.
By integrating medical history, biologic principles, and clinical decision-making, this session provides a practical framework for elevating peri-implant care within a whole-patient model, bridging dentistry, medicine, and implant therapy into a cohesive treatment approach.
Upon completion of this workshop, attendees should be able to:
-
Identify key systemic and medical risk factors that influence the development and progression of peri-implantitis.
-
Apply a medical–dental integrated framework to peri-implant diagnosis, risk assessment, and treatment planning within a whole-patient care model.
